I know I know. Us saying the AeroPress is awesome is a lot like Harrison Ford saying he likes Star Wars. But in our defense: not everyone knows the AeroPress is awesome yet, and most people who know the AeroPress don't know all the cool tricks you can do with it.
So without further ado, here's our favorite list of cool stuff you can do with the AeroPress:
Cool AeroPress Trick #1: Use it upside down. How many coffee makers do you have that seem oblivious to gravity? The AeroPress obviously works right side up, as recommended by the manufacturer. But there's an established body of AeroPress lore that celebrates the virtues of a carefully flipped AeroPress.
This video recipe describes humble inverted brewing as the "tactical force multiplier method." So that's pretty awesome...
Cool AeroPress Trick #2: The AeroPress cleans itself as you brew. Can your French press do that? Yeah, thought so. Alan Adler, the inventor of the AeroPress, actually has a patent on this handy little plunger action so don't go thinking you can just make a big version of the AeroPress called the PressoAero and get away with it. You'd have lawyers swarming all over you like bees on a bee beard guy.
Here's what that cleaning action looks like:
Seriously, though, people have been trying to figure out how to squeeze more cups out of the AeroPress for awhile. That's one of the cool things about the S Filter, actually. Thanks to an S Filter hack, you can brew double your normal quantity or even more in the AeroPress.
Here's a video we made on how to double the standard AeroPress brew volume without breaking any patents or invoking any swarms of bee-beard-lawyers. More coffee for all!
Cool AeroPress Trick #3: You can use it for more than just coffee. Not that coffee isn't great, but really the AeroPress is more than just a single use kitchen counter coffee brewer. No, in addition to your morning cup you can use the AeroPress for making vodka liqueurs and even for juicing.
As this video shows, though, juicing is not particularly easy with a standard issue paper filter. Yes, we're bragging but it's true: an S Filter would make pressing this wild strawberry juice much easier...
So there you have it just as we promised: 3 reasons to love the AeroPress. It brews both ways, it cleans itself and it's not just for coffee. We're biased, but we think that earns it a place on your kitchen table (or on your next camping trip).
