Tis' the season to want coffee! Yum yum yum yum yum, yum yum yum yum!
In the spirit of giving and the start of retail season, we want to share how you can make your ideal cup of coffee again and again for a fraction of the price of a fancy espresso machine. (Or even a low-end espresso machine.)
For brewing purposes, you want something with versatility that can brew everything from an espresso to an immersion brew (like a French Press) to pour over style (percolating water gently through the coffee). For that we (of course) recommend the Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker and the Kaffeologie S Filter, an ultra fine stainless steel filter designed to enhance brewing in the AeroPress. The AeroPress is a simple and innovative coffee maker that can brew coffee or espresso in as little as 1 minute. Together, the AeroPress and S Filter can brew just a 2 ounce shot of espresso or as much as 2 cups (14 ounces) of fully flavored coffee.
Grind size is critical to your brewing results. Again, you want versatility, and for that we recommend a Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill. This heavy duty burr grinder has 18 grind settings giving you options that range from extra fine (for espressos) to extra coarse (for the cupping enthusiast). The burr plates give you an even grind, which protects those crucial oils and flavors.
Can't forget the beans! The cost on this component varies - especially since you need to replenish your stock, but definitely get yourself some good beans. Your taste buds will thank you!
Your total cost for equipment: $90.00. For less than the cost of a minor traffic ticket, you now have the ability to brew delicious, quality, clean coffee at home. If stop you visiting the coffee shop everyday, you'll break even in about a month. Think of the possibilities! (Delicious, delicious possibilities.)
